This Friday, December 18th, at 7.30 pm, the opening of the exhibition "Pieces of my feeling," by Maria de Deus Silvestre, will take place at the House of the Arcano, in Ribeira Grande, an exhibit that will run until February 2nd, 2016.
In this exhibition, the artist displays several works in patchwork, developed with the mastery and creativity characteristic to her. For almost twenty years now - since 1997 - Maria de Deus Silvestre has been exhibiting works of this kind.
June 1997, during the city celebrations of Ribeira Grande, marked her first exhibition, at the Santa casa da Misericórdia of Ribeira Grande, named "Patches of my time." She displayed some of her works, among them, "Forest", "Harmony" and "Magic".
She received for the first time the recognition of the visitors, including representatives of local authorities and the local press who rushed to dub the original exhibition and did not fail to admire the sensitivity of the artist.
Also in 1997, Maria de Deus Silvestre received a new invitation to join an exhibition conducted by the high school of Ribeira Grande in collaboration with Kairos Association. Thus, the exhibition "New Patches" emerged, enjoying the acceptance of all who visited it, including the school population.
After an interregnum in which Maria de Deus Silvestre continued, in the quiet of her home, to give wings to the work produced by the laborious hands, and also to improve her technique, she was invited to repeat the collaboration in the festivities of the city of Ribeira Grande in 1999, thus inaugurating, at the time, the exhibition "Silences".
She has since been gaining the attention of visitors, also expanding her audience, quite keen on her works. The last time she exhibited in Ribeira Grande was in 2011, at the community and youth centre of Rabo de Peixe.
