In this chapel dedicated to the Holy Spirit is where the first church and hospital da Misericórdia of the village of Ribeira Grande was installed.
The actual building and the church’s facade take shape during the 17th and 18th century, presenting itself as one of the most beautiful examples of baroque architecture in the Archipelago. We must highlight the existence of a group of the Five Stations of the Cross dating back to 1790, which are directly connected to this building making it one of the reasons why this church is also called the Igreja do Senhor dos Passos.
