The Municipality of Ribeira Grande is located on the north coast of the island of São Miguel; it takes up an area of 179.5 km² and has borders with five other municipalities. It is divided into 14 parishes and has 32,299 residents, being considered as the youngest municipality in the Azores.
Airplanes are the most common means of transportation to reach the Azores. There are regular connections between Lisbon and Ponta Delgada (Island of São Miguel) ensured by the regional airline SATA - Air Açores.
You can reach the municipality of Ribeira Grande by renting a car - there are various rent-a-car agencies by the arrivals gate - or by taxi. The historic centre of the city of Ribeira Grande is 24 km, or 20 minutes, away from the airport. CRP - Caetano Raposo Pereira is the company that ensures public transportation services from Ponta Delgada.
